CREA
Mission:
To conserve tropical rainforests through the principles of science, education and environmental justice
- The rainforests of Central America harbor unparalelled biodiversity
- Central America has the highest deforestation rate in the world losing about 19% of its forests between 1990 and 2005
- The rainforests are being destroyed mostly for agricultural expansion by the poor
- An important part of CREA´s work includes building
capacity within local, often poor, communities to protect and
even restore tropical rainforests on their land, while training
them to grow and sell produce in an efficient and environmentally sensitive
way.
